Here’s another YankeeKicks sneak peek with the upcoming Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 Low “University Gold” dropping in July. First debuted during the “Figures of Speech” exhibit, Virgil Abloh is already outdoing himself with this misleadingly simple silhouette.
At first glance, we just see an AF 1 Low dipped in one solid block of University Gold. But the devil, or rather Off-White, is in the details.
The smooth leather panels appear to be painted by hand and almost seem to be hiding something below (a potential wear-away upper a-la G-Dragon, maybe?). Or, maybe it’s just a trick of the matte coat.
The true richness of the University Gold shines in the vibrant “SHOELACES”, panel stitching, and slightly fuzzy, blank, zip-tie. Sneakerheads may recognize this same fuzzy zip-tie from a previous Off-White Vapor Street.
Following Virgil’s deconstructed and DIY aesthetic, the nylon tongue with loose threading and exposed foam feel almost weightless. The “OFF” Nike Air White tongue tab hangs out stitched to the tongues lateral side rather than its usual home directly on top. More exposed foam lines the low-profile collar gorgeously and adds greater contrast to the overall design.
The quarter panel Swooshes look out of this world, utilizing Metallic Silver material similar to mylar polyester film but appears warn down. Additionally, the tip not stitched in place with thin, Black thread feels delicate to the touch. Nike embroidery on the heel counter gets covered with a University Gold strip of fabric held in place with matching zig-zag threading.
Black cobranding is seen on the insoles to go with the quarter panel Off- White for Nike stamp as well as the “AIR” and “SHOELACE” text. But there’s still one more surprise left. Under UV light, the Golden threading connecting the panels glow in the dark. Perfect for a DJ turn fashion icon.
The entire design comes off so sleek and understated, yet bursts with originality and that special Virgil Abloh touch. if this is what his latest collection has in store, we can’t wait to see the rest. Still no confirmed release date for the Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 Low “University Gold”. Until the next update, enjoy the YankeeKicks sneak peek images.
