Among the several upcoming sneaker collabs that were unveiled during New York Fashion week, a few stood out. Particularly the Ambush Nike Dunk High Lethal Pink and the Nike Air Zoom Viperfly. Although, for two different reasons. Nike Dunk is praised for it’s collaboration with Tokyo-based label Ambush. Nike Air Zoom Viperfly, on the other hand, almost didn’t get to see Tokyo where the 2020 Olympics are being held.
Nike designed the Air Zoom Viperfly to do one thing: sprint. Form-fitting flexible Atomknit comprises the Black upper that flexes across the forefoot. Meanwhile, ultra-light iridescent spikes make for Team Swoosh’s swiftest track spikes to date.
Viperfly is made specifically for the 100-meter dash, offering a giant Zoom Air forefoot pod. Subsequently, a carbon fiber plate is placed between the pod and the spikes below. The foam mini spikes on the heel is aesthetically pleasing and creates a asymmetrical appeal which highlights the spikes even more. However, this is not an artistic design, but a scientific one.
Now most of us don’t plan to start training for the Olympics or getting into track. So most wouldn’t realize that from the moment sprinters kneel into the starter position their heels try not to hit the track. Because of this, the Atomknit upper is more dense in the heel to increase breathability.
This carbon fiber plate caused controversy with World Athletics for breaking guidelines based on its initial construction. However, it appears that after months of uncertainty, we will see the Zoom Air Viperfly among the athletic shoes at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
Nike Members will be the first to get access on February 29, 2020. However to learn more, you’ll need to stay tuned for more sneak peeks, reviews and releases of the hottest kicks.
