La Flame did it again! Travis Scott teams up with Jordan Brand to produce the heavily coveted Air Jordan 6 Retro Cactus Jack. The AJ 1s were released (and within minutes sold out) Oct. 11th 2019 at 10 am. The JB team and the Astroworld creator collaborated for the fourth time to bring yet another amazing sneaker to the masses, if only for a brief time.
Travis Scott’s love for vintage military apparel inspired the muted Olive suede which beautifully compliments the Black Sail canvas tongue, and perforated reflective design. KangaROOS-reminiscent side cargo pockets hide the Cactus Jack branding inside and are a signature of Scott’s. The University Red accents coupled with the translucent, glow in the dark outsoles had music and sneaker fans alike singing “I need, I need. I need, I need.”
However, singing soon turned to Twitter rage. Thousands took to the platform to trash Nike’s SNKRS as well as outlets like SVD, BSTN and Extra Butter where the AJ6s were being raffled. Retail prices in four sizes ranged from $60 for toddlers to $250 for adults, making them great buys for the entire family; if you were lucky enough to snag even one pair. But as soon as the sneakers were available, problems quickly followed.
Firstly, The Draw Raffle system only gave SNKRS app users a fifteen minute window to enter and see if they were selected. This lead to Nike supporters to refresh their pages repeatedly. In addition to the incredibly high usage, some fans complained that they were experiencing a lag or a complete app crash. Moreover, many sneaker lovers weren’t given the chance to submit their entries at all.
Travis first debuted these bad boys during his both figurative and literally “lit” Super Bowl 53 Halftime performance of “Sicko Mode” back in February of this year. Cactus Jack’s AJ 1s popularity and the fantastic Dirty Cactus and Family & Friends AJ 4s had the world holding its breath waiting for a release date.
However, with the 11th come and gone and exclusivity increased, the resale value on the Air Jordan 6 has entered into the thousands. Furthermore, many fans are left to speculate what the Houston rapper will drop next; and more important, when.
