Gong hey fat choi! “Congrats and be prosperous” this upcoming January as we say goodbye to the Year of the Pig and usher in the Year of the Rat. As well as some amazing Chinese inspired kicks. Here are a couple of sneakers to look forward to this new year.

Onitsuka Tiger “Chinese New Year 2020”

It should be noted, Onitsuka Co Ltd was founded by Kihachiro Onitsuka in 1949 with the goal of using athletic footwear to boost the self-esteem of the war-rocked youth. Rebranded in the early 2000s, sneaker fans will recognize Onitsuka’s kicks not by name but by association. Namely in 2003, Uma Thurman’s character Beatrix Kiddo in Kill Bill. Blue flowers and accents on the pack panels create a festive contrast. The multicolored thread used for the rope laces may remind sneaker savants of Chinese finger traps we play with as children. Finally the eye catching burning Red insole is glittered with Golden confetti graphics cascading down towards the Onitsuka Tiger branding. Nike Air Force 1 “Chinese New Year 2020”

Similarly compared to the Air Force 1 Lunar New Year 2018, AF 1 gives us a White on White upper, allowing the eyes to focus on its gorgeously joyous Swooshes, liner tongue tag and heel stabilizers. Moreover, the left stabilizer appears to have a large “2020” stamped on top white the right is a depiction of the Buddha is his well known Bronzed embodiment. They both rest on a rainbow of flowers enticing the wearer to add an extra bounce to their stride. The collar lining is a rich Blood Red perfectly balanced with the matching tongue branding.
