Michael Jordan and the Jordan Brand pledge $100 million over the next 10 years “dedicated to ensuring racial equality, social justice and greater access to education.” Recently, several companies have pledged to donate and re-innovate with regards to systemic problems facing African Americans. For example , Michael Jordan has stepped up. “We must join forces with the community, government and civic leaders to create a lasting impact together,” Jordan Brand president Craig Williams said. Jordan Brand adds its voice to Nike who has made June 19 aka Juneteenth 2020 a paid holiday for its employees.
“Black lives matter. This isn’t a controversial statement. Until the ingrained racism that allows our country’s institutions to fail is completely eradicated, we will remain committed to protecting and improving the lives of Black people.”
MJ and the Jordan Brand will each $50 million adding to the $40 million Nike plans to contribute. Jordan’s $100 million pledge comes in the wake of the national and global outrage of the death of George Floyd. However, Jordan brand has a long history of philanthropy.
