Fast forward to 2020 and we have ourselves a Plum resurgence in the revamped “Ugly Duckling” colorway for the Nike Dunk Low Japan exclusive release coming early February. Which is good, because unless you’re the most prestigious collector, you’ve warn your OG Dunks out by now. The announcement came complete with its own Japanese circa 2001 styled promotional photos.

Long before the days of IG and Facebook and Twitter, to see fresh kick, you had to catch them in music videos, on the covers of magazines and live watching the game. And if you were really cool, you “knew a guy” overseas with all the sneaker hookups. That was what 2001 was like, when Nike released the “Ugly Duckling” Pack including a Dunk Low Pro B “Plum.”

Get into the look…

While the coveted OG Dunk Low designed by Peter Moore was the foundation of the SB Dunk, the updated Dunk Low is not a skateboard sneaker. This silhouette comes dressed in premium Plum suede upper overlays and Daybreak Purple underlays. Additionally we see Daybreak cover the mesh tongue, criss-crossed with Barn Red wide laces. Subsequently, we find a Plum Dunk Low sockliner that’s been given more cushion for added support.

Daybreak comes through nicely on the perforated toe box and Nike branded insole. Despite the “Ugly Duckling” association, this two-tone Purple looks gorgeous with splashes of contrasting Barn Red on the Swooshes, Nike heel counter, and Nike tongue tab and rubber outsole. A White midsole pulls the whole look together.

Although we wont see this release in America, Japan locals and sneaker collectors can expect the Nike Dunk Low “Plum” to retail at $110 on February 7th. How good is your overseas sneaker hookup?
