Undoubtedly Adidas is going Green in a major way with the announcement of the Parley Futurecraft Loop. The first of its kind, it is the only performance running sneaker to be made top to bottom out of a single material: proprietary plastic.
In summary marine plastic waste and illegal deep-sea gillnets has been transform into yarns and filaments using a patented Adidas SPEEDFACTORY technology since 2015.
Subsequently 11 million pairs of sneakers that reclaimed environmental waste will be produced this year alone. However, the Futurecraft Loop is the first line made solely of 100% reused materials.
Make no mistake. When we say 100, we keep it 100. Laces, upper, tongue, boost cushioning and torsion bar; all proprietary plastic. Additionally not even glue is used to hold the shoes together. Plastic is heated and fused to hold their shape and endure everyday athletic activity.
Adidas simply features a Pure White upper against translucent Off White trademark three side stripes, heel stabilizer and mudguard. The brand logo found on the insole and tongue add a pop of color. Finally the “100% recyclable” guarantee is prominently displayed amongst the laces.
Adidas is committed to using only recycled materials in every product and every application possible by 2024. The brand doesn’t just consider the purchase of their sneakers, but the materials that make up the sneaker as well.
“What happens to your shoes after you’ve worn them out? You throw them away – except there is no away” says Adidas Executive Board Member Eric Liedtke.
“There are only landfills and incinerators and ultimately an atmosphere choked with excess carbon, or oceans filled with plastic waste. The next step is to end the concept of “waste” entirely. Our dream is that you can keep wearing the same shoes over and over again.”
It should be noted that the release isn’t set until Spring/Summer 2021. Only 200 pairs were unveiled in April at an exclusive Brooklyn event. Adidas has asked the chosen few influencers to test the sneakers for themselves and get a feel for them in their every day lives (guess who has a pair?!).
Parley for the Ocean, the environmentally conscious team of innovators ridding the world seas of plastic humans have dumped, began working with Adidas in 2015.
