We here at YankeeKicks got our hands on another limited edition sneaker masterpiece in the form of the JohnnysKicks x Ceezee SB Dunk J Balvin “Colores.” On New Year’s Day, John Trottier aka JohnnysKicks teased his followers with a hybrid image of his own logo filled in by J Balvin’s recognizable 3D smiley-face florals. The only hint of what was to come was the caption “COMING SOON….?? STAY TUNED! 2021 is about to be a movie!!” This followed an IG post made on December 26th revealing the J Balvin Sacai, wanting to know everyone’s sizes.
Now, courtesy of the man himself, we breakdown JohnnyKicks most recent endeavor, the SB Dunk J Balvin “Colores” in all its glory. JT and his team at Ceezeecm reimagined the SB Dunk silhouette with lush suede underlays in mismatched Red and Blue. Starting with the Right sneaker, the perforated toe box appears in Blue as the quarter panels burn Red.
Meanwhile, the reverse takes over the left upper. Both tongues come coated in vivid Red suede, Likewise, both suede heels and tongue liners pop with Golden Yellow topped with Silver heel counters. The left shows off Yellow smiley-fac with Pink lightning eyes. Those same eyes appear solo on the right heel counter. From the heel view, you can make out the White reverse tongue tabs with Cz branding in Black on the left, and JK branding on the right.
The choice to leave the Nike SB tongue tabs, thick laces, Air midsole, and sole inserts White is simply ingenious. It allows for Takashi Muarakami’s graphic flower designs to dominate the leather toe wrap, lace cage, and heel and pulls everything together. But this SB Dunk is not done. More Blue coats the leather sockliner and sits in the arch of the translucent rubber outsole below.
Additionally, JT provides four sets of interchangeable velcro quarter panel Nike Swooshes. While leather comprises the White Swoosh, the Red, Blue, and Golden Yellow ones are all suede to match the underlays. This design is not only fun but functional. Despite being so animated, nothing on the SB Dunk J Balvin feels out of place. The splashes of Blue, Red, Green, and even the occasional Black and Silver in the florals work perfectly.
It should be noted, the pair featured is a one-of-one not for resale and may never see a limited release. However, be sure to keep it locked to YankeeKicks. Because if they ever do release the JohnnysKicks x Ceezee SB Dunk J Balvin “Colores”, we’ll be the first to let you know. For now, enjoy the images and be on the lookout for our YouTube breakdown coming soon.
